Palm kernel oil is a white to yellowish oil of vegetable origin which is solid at normal temperatures and is derived from the kernel of the oil palm Elaeis guineensis. Palm kernel oil is one of highly saturated vegetable fats, and contains the 16-carbon saturated fatty acid palmitic acid.

If the palm kernel oil is fresh, it has lesser FFA that makes the losses lower in palm kernel oil refining process. For example, 1 ton of crude palm kernel oil is given as an input to the palm kernel refinery plant, the final refined obtainable output of RBD palm kernel oil from the palm kernel oil refinery plant will be 980 Kgs. But if the crude palm kernel oil is old and long stored, it will have high FFA rate, then the losses will be more.
