How to refine palm kernel oil?

Usually, in palm kernel oil refining plant, there are four steps to refine palm kernel oil: degumming, deacidification, decolorization and deodorization. Every step is very important for refining palm oil. Only all the steps are qualified, you can get high quality refined palm kernel oil.

As the above picture shows, the first step is palm kernel oil degumming process. Add hot water or P-acid to make the colloidal impurity larger and precipitate, and then be separated from palm kernel oil.

The second step is palm kernel oil deacidification process. In small scale palm kernel oil refining plant, it uses chemical deacidification method. Add alkali liquor to neutralize the free fatty acid in palm kernel oil, and generate soapstock to be separated from palm kernel oil. But in large scale palm kernel oil refining plant, it uses physical deacidification method. In deodorization tower, the high temperature steam to take the free fatty acid and odors off, and you will get pure free fatty acid.

The third step is palm kernel oil decolorization process. Add white clay to absorb the pigment in the palm kernel oil, and then use the leaf filter to remove the waste white clay from palm kernel oil.

The last step is palm kernel oil deodorization process. Because the required temperature is very high, the deodorization tank or tower must be highly evacuated, so that in case the palm kernel oil will be oxidized. And then use high temperature steam to take the odors off.
